‘Every day is a good day’
The Zen phrase 日々是好日 (‘Every day is a good day’) means that every day can become a good day. Simple acts, like placing a flower in a vase, or enjoying the shape and feel of a favourite bowl transform that moment and our sense of self.
My ceramics are made with that moment in mind. All my works have richly textured surfaces that highlight the effect of flame on clay and glaze. They are made for the user to touch, to hold, to move and to delight in those sensations. The shapes are informed by my lifelong study of Chadô (Japanese Tea) and connections to Asia.
